India’s women’s team created history by lifting the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 title after defeating South Africa in the final. The summit clash took place on Sunday, November 2, at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Put in to bat first, Shafali Verma led the charge for the Women in Blue with a brilliant 87 off 78 balls, including seven fours and two sixes. Deepti Sharma later shone with a run-a-ball 58 featuring three fours and a six, as India posted a commanding 298/7 in 50 overs.

In reply, South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt fought valiantly with a superb 101 off 98 balls (11 fours, one six), but lacked support from the other end. The Proteas were eventually bowled out for 246 in 45.3 overs. Deepti starred with the ball too, claiming a match-winning 5/39 in 9.3 overs as India sealed a 52-run victory to clinch their maiden ODI World Cup title.

As the nation celebrated this historic triumph, here’s a look at the top five moments from Team India’s post-match celebrations after their World Cup 2025 win.

#1 Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana recreate Virat Kohli-Rohit Sharma’s iconic tricolour pose

India’s men’s team had ended their 11-year ICC trophy drought by winning the 2024 T20 World Cup under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, defeating South Africa by seven runs in the final held in Barbados. In 2025, India’s women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana recreated that iconic moment. The duo stood side by side, holding the tricolour high as they celebrated India’s maiden Women’s World Cup title with a 52-run win over South Africa.

#2 Team India celebrate the win with former stars Jhulan Goswami, Mithali Raj, and Anjum Chopra

As India’s women’s team celebrated their maiden World Cup triumph, they invited former legends Jhulan Goswami, Mithali Raj, and Anjum Chopra, who were part of the broadcasting panel, to join the celebrations.

The Women in Blue shared emotional moments with the trio and even made them lift the trophy. The victory was especially significant, as it marked India’s first-ever ODI World Cup title, following runner-up finishes in 2005 and 2017, both under Mithali Raj’s captaincy.

#3 Head coach Amol Muzumdar celebrates the triumph with his father

The victory also marked a historic moment for Mumbai native and India women’s team head coach Amol Muzumdar. The 50-year-old, who represented Mumbai, Andhra, and Assam, played 171 first-class matches, scoring 11,167 runs at an impressive average of 48.13, with 30 centuries and 60 half-centuries to his name, but he never got the chance to play for the senior Indian team.
