Doja Cat shares details about her album Vie during an interview
Doja Cat (Image via Getty ImagesDoja Cat’s Tour Ma Vie tour was in support of her latest album, Vie. The singer had previously shared new details about the album in an interview with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe on Friday, August 22.
During the conversation, the singer-rapper spoke at length about working with Jack Antonoff, marking their first collaboration together. She explained that the process involved balancing vulnerability with creative discovery, particularly as she was still getting to know Antonoff on a personal level while making the album.
“I’m working with Jack Antonoff and working with a person that’s new in my life. And so it’s the grappling with talking about something personal and creating something fresh, and then getting to know someone new, and then all of these things fell together really naturally,” she said. She went on to praise Antonoff’s presence in the studio, describing him as a supportive and enjoyable collaborator. Doja said the sessions felt more playful and musically freeing than before, allowing her to experiment vocally and approach pop music with renewed curiosity.
“He’s just been such a wonderful person to work with…But yeah, I think it’s just been nice to play,” Doja explainedExpanding on that idea, Doja explained that she deliberately pushed herself to explore her voice in new ways throughout the album.
She said she wanted to move away from more unconventional techniques and instead focus on expressive, exaggerated vocal performances, even describing moments where she was “shrieking a little” on the record and finding that process enjoyable.
“I really played through the whole thing … I think what I wanted to do was play with my voice in ways that are a little bit less unconventional. And so I’m shrieking a little bit on this album, and that’s been a lot of fun,” Doja Cat added.Lyrically, Vie was heavily influenced by Doja’s recent romantic experiences. She explained that her relationships prompted her to reflect on emotional patterns she hadn’t fully examined before, particularly themes of rushing into intimacy, naivety, and love bombing.
She said she became interested in how people give “excessive compliments and gifts right off the bat,” sometimes without realizing the impact of those actions, and noted that exploring those dynamics felt creatively exciting.
Doja first began teasing the Vie era in April 2025, gradually revealing its nostalgic pop direction. Since then, she continued to build anticipation through snippets, previews, and the release of Jealous Type in August.
As per an NME report, earlier this month, she also hosted a surprise listening event, giving fans an early glimpse into the album’s sound and emotional tone.
Doja Cat’s fifth studio album, Vie, was released on September 26, 2025.
