John Cena's last match in WWE against Gunther is still a hot topic in the wrestling world. The 17-time WWE Champion losing his last match, and that too by tapping out, hasn't gone down well with his fans. And not just the fans, even wrestling veterans have strong views regarding the finish to Cena's last bout.

Renowned Mexican wrestler Konnan has expressed strong views against John Cena losing his last match. While speaking at Keepin' It 100 Official podcast recently, the 61-year-old veteran said that the way the company booked Cena's retirement tour was like he had with the office.

The way they booked him, it's almost like he had heat, right, with the office. Number one. Number two, look at all the business he did with them, you know his last time Boston, his last time in Boston, Madison Square Garden, everywhere was sold out, you know, and if you went there, it's almost like they got cute. Konnan said that Triple H's creative team could have done a "million things with Gunther, without having to sacrifice Cena."

"Nobody expected him to lose the last three matches, especially the last one. It's his last match, bro. Let him go out with respect. You don't do that for somebody who did so much for your business," Konnan said. [15:32-15:38]

The wrestling veteran also criticised Cena's promos as a heel, saying that there was no "originality in those promos and we have heard those promos from other people" in the past. He stated that getting John Cena to lose the last three matches of his retirement tour wasn't a wise move.

Konnan blames The Rock for messing up everything in John Cena's WWE retirement tour

The WCW legend also didn't hesitate while taking shots at The Rock for ruining Cena's retirement tour.

"The Rock's the guy that messed it all up," he said.

The Rock returned to WWE on RAW's debut episode on Netflix on January 5, 2025 this year. Before Elimination Chamber, he returned to SmackDown and got into a storyline involving Cody Rhodes.

At Elimination Chamber 2025, he came out with Travis Scott, and led to John Cena's heel turn against Cody. However, he disappeared from the scene thereafter. Despite the immense anticipation of his return at WrestleMania 41, The Rock didn't show up.

The fans slammed WWE for such a poor finish at Mania, and Cena's heel turn and his win as 17-time WWE Champion went in vain. His retirement tour nosedived from there, and it ended up as a complete flop show.

Cena turned babyface once again after losing his title to Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam 2025. He went to compete in a few matches till December 13, 2025, but The Rock was nowhere to be seen. And he didn't even show up at Cena's last match at Saturday Night's Main Event (SNME).

Not just Konnan, many wrestling fans have slammed The Rock's no-show, after leading to Cena's heel turn. We haven't heard from The Rock about his absence till now. It will be interesting to see what The Final Boss will have to say about it.
