Time window in which Mojang could reveal Minecraft Spring 2026 game drop

Assuming the Spring 2026 game drop reveal based on the previous year

Since 2025 was the first year in which Mojang executed the game drop development cycle, it becomes a yardstick that can be analyzed to assume when the company could reveal information about the next game drop.

Mojang revealed information about Spring to Life, 2025's first game drop, on January 8, 2025, which was a Wednesday. They stated that various game drop features were available in Java snapshots, Bedrock beta and previews. The features included warm and cold pig variants, a lodestone crafting recipe change, wildflowers, falling leaves, and more.

Since the developers revealed the game drop in the second week of January, an assumption can be made that information about the Spring 2026 game drop could also drop sometime in early to mid-January. This means that anytime between January 6 and January 13.

Minecraft's Spring 2026 game drop will have the brand new version numbering system and will be 26.1. Though this is aimed for 2026, Mojang has already released Minecraft 26.1 snapshot 1 in 2025. This snapshot does not add any new features, since they are still hidden behind the curtains. Instead, the developers only worked on various technical, behind-the-scenes features of the game.

In this snapshot, developers updated the Java runtime version, gave villager trades a new data-driven system, changing how their trade lists are randomized, added a new lightmap debug renderer in the debug screen, and others.

Mojang has already said that it is working hard on bringing Vibrant Visuals to Java Edition. This is evident in almost every snapshot, where developers are working on lighting, shadows, and other graphical features. However, it is not yet revealed whether the modern graphical option will arrive in Java Edition with the next game drop or not.

As of now, the latest snapshot only reveals the technical changes that will arrive in the game.
