"There should be an asterisk": Dave Portnoy takes issue with Ryan Day & Ohio State's win over Sherrone Moore's Michigan amid alleged cheating scandal

Ryan Day's Ohio State beat Michigan 27-9 in November. At the time, Sherrone Moore was coaching the Wolverines, but he was fired on Dec. 10 for having an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.

In the aftermath of Moore's firing and the ensuing chaos, ardent Michigan fan Dave Portnoy has called for an asterisk to be added next to this year’s Ohio State-Michigan game. Portnoy appeared on "Wake Up Barstool" on Monday and claimed that the Buckeyes had an unfair advantage due to Moore's personal issues.

"The more this past game (Ohio State-Michigan) unfolded, I honestly think there should be an asterisk next to that game," Portnoy said. "It’s a sad situation, but it’s tough to win that game. It’s tough to stay focused. It appears as though our head coach (Moore) could have been in a straitjacket heading into that game. He did not have his mind on football. "I don’t know that Ohio State, Ryan Day, even gets credit for that victory in light of everything that was circling around that. I mean, I could have beaten us at that point. We didn’t have a coach. There was so much Mickey Mouse stuff going on. We didn’t know that.”

An asterisk next to a game signifies that the contest is not entirely legitimate due to external factors.

A few hours after Michigan fired Moore, he was arrested as a suspect for alleged assault. Moore was later charged with a felony count of third-degree home invasion and two misdemeanors related to an alleged break-in at the home of the staffer with whom he was having an affair.

After Moore was arrested, reports claimed that he had been dealing with mental health issues for a few weeks while coaching at Michigan.

Ryan Day's Ohio State will face Miami in CFP quarterfinals

Ryan Day's No. 2-seed Ohio State will face No. 10-seed Miami in the Cotton Bowl on Wednesday. The College Football Playoff quarterfinal game will commence at 7:30 p.m. ET from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The Buckeyes lost the Big Ten title game to Indiana. However, they cannot lose another game from her onwards if they want to defend their national title.
