DJ Akademiks publicly shut down viral claims suggesting that he reported streamer Kai Cenat’s girlfriend had cheated on him with rapper NBA YoungBoy. For context, Kai Cenat confirmed via an X post on Saturday, December 27, that he had broken up with his girlfriend, Gabrielle “Gigi” Alayah.
"I’m single I will never be in another relationship again," he wrote.I’m single I will never be in another relationship again
Shortly after Cenat’s announcement, unverified social media posts began circulating, alleging that the split occurred because Alayah was involved in an affair with NBA YoungBoy. Several accounts went further, claiming that DJ Akademiks was the source of the rumor and had revealed the alleged affair during one of his livestreams.
In a clip from his latest livestream shared by AkademiksTV on X, on December 28, DJ Akademiks directly addressed the claims. He began by explaining that he was aware of the viral narrative and wanted to clarify the situation, stressing that he had not reported any such allegation.
"Now y’all want to know the truth about this?…I got 4k proof. Here’s the thing, chat. This is not true. And I said it on a live stream that I stream to 15,000 people every night. 15,000 people, and there’s not one video clip of me saying this and people are running with it," DJ Akademiks explained.DJ Akademiks then expanded on the broader issue of fan loyalty and how it can lead to misplaced backlash. He explained that he and Kai Cenat had spoken privately in the past and suggested that intense fandom often resulted in people attacking others without verifying facts.
"You know, me and Kai, we’ve talked. You know, not recently, but like we’ve talked multiple times, you know, just offline and sh*t like that, man. When y’all love a ni**a, y’all be just attacking other motherf**kers no matter what," DJ Akademiks added. He went on to reflect on how he had become entangled in the situation, questioning how his name had ended up involved in a rumor he said he had never participated in spreading. Akademiks also reiterated a point he frequently made to his audience, noting that “it’s better to be liked than to be right.”
Addressing the specific claim that he reported on Kai Cenat’s ex-girlfriend cheating, DJ Akademiks dismissed the accusation outright.
"Yo, accent this bro. Come on, man. Y'all got to stop this, man. Y'all got to stop it, bro," he said. What else did DJ Akademiks say about the claim that he reported on Kai Cenat’s ex-girlfriend cheating?

He shared how, in his direct messages, he was targeted by viewers who believed he was responsible for spreading false information about the streamer’s personal life. He emphasized that Kai Cenat’s massive influence amplified the reaction, with fans attacking him on Cenat’s behalf.
"Look at my DM. It’s all the, it’s all the wide linebackers, all the big back chicks from (the) shaderoom, they’re threatening to kill me. Yo Kai, you got to put a statement out gang, please. Kai Cenat , you got to realize you’re such a big deal now that people love you so much. They attack everybody on behalf of you, ni**a," he added.Expanding on the fallout, Akademiks also described being overwhelmed by messages from Shade Room followers.
He further added that the “Shade Room audience” was talking about Kai Cenat and Gabrielle “Gigi” Alayah’s relationship like they're “Barack and Michelle” and accusing him of breaking up their beloved relationship.
"I got all the wide back heifers, the scallyw*gs, the bi**hes who are plate cleaners, the single bidder, baby mamas, the chicks with five ni**as, but nobody want to wife them. I got all the shade room audience in my DM. You know what they say? You broke up our favorite cup, bro…They said, I broke it up. I f**ked it up," DJ Akademiks added. He went on to insist that the cheating allegation was entirely fabricated and urged multiple media pages and content clippers to correct the narrative.
Akademiks stressed that he had never said the ex-girlfriend was unfaithful and said he was invoking a familiar “newsflash” moment to clear his name.
"Here’s the thing. Newsflash…AkademiksTV, everybody else who are clippers throughout the world, please print (and) post this. Academiks never said this. This is not true. I got to hit the six, nine quote on this," he remarked.Later in the video, Akademiks said he felt deliberately ignored when trying to defend himself, claiming thousands of people flooded his DMs, accusing him of “ruining black love.” He reiterated that the story was “fake” and said he was owed an apology for being falsely blamed.
DJ Akademiks also claimed that many people were deliberately ignoring key facts and said he was owed “a lot of an apology,” arguing that thousands had flooded his direct messages, accusing him of “ruining Black love” based on claims he described as entirely “fake.”
He stressed that he never fabricated the story in question, saying he had no idea where it originated and that it had simply been “created” by others.
DJ Akademiks further explained that his role as a news-focused creator often made him an easy target for misinformation. He explained that he did not know which page it was that first claimed his reporting of Alayah cheating on Kai Cenat.
"I don't know what page it says. They just created this. They do this from time to time. They know I'm the news guy. I'm like TMZ in certain circles. So they're going to say, this is a source. And by the way, the people also playing with my reputation, Akademiks don't lie about a motherf**king thing. Cause if I said that I would stand on it," he added.Akademiks further added that he never made the statements he was accused of and maintained that he had attempted to conduct “due diligence” to understand what was happening.
However, he said the situation was ultimately not for him "to speak on,” reiterating that his only motivation was to “clear” his “name,” and not to insert himself further into the controversy.
Toward the end of his remarks, DJ Akademiks directly addressed the accusation that he claimed Kai Cenat’s ex-girlfriend had cheated with NBA YoungBoy, firmly denying ever saying she participated in infidelity or commenting on their relationship in that way. He asked those who spread the accusation to apologize publicly.
He also clarified that the only time he had ever spoken about Kai Cenat’s ex-girlfriend was when her mother inserted herself into a conversation involving Cenat. Akademiks said he criticized that situation but emphasized he “never, never said nothing of the sort” regarding cheating and asked to be kept out of the narrative altogether.
While Kai Cenat addressed speculation surrounding his split from Gigi Alayah, he didn’t respond to rumors involving DJ Akademiks.
Meanwhile, Akademiks continues to focus on his Off the Record livestreams on Rumble, where he primarily discusses music and culture.
