As per some media reports, keeper-batter Rishabh Pant could be dropped from the ODI team for the three-match home series against New Zealand, which will be played from January 11 to January 18. Pant has already been left out of the Indian team for the T20I series against New Zealand as well as the 2026 T20 World Cup. In fact, he hasn't played a T20I since July 2024.

As per a report in India Today, the selectors have now decided to move on from the left-handed keeper-batter in ODI format as well. The report claimed that in-form stumper Ishan Kishan could be recalled to the Indian side for the one-dayers. Having led Jharkhand to victory in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, Kishan has carried his brilliant batting form into the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025 as well.
