R Ashwin believes Australian pacer Nathan Ellis' recent form would please the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans. His comments came after the fast bowler's impactful spell for Hobart Hurricanes in their 2025-26 Big Bash League match against Melbourne Renegades on Monday, December 29.
Skipper Ellis shone with the ball for the Hurricanes, registering figures of 4-0-30-3. Ashwin seemed mightily impressed by the 31-year-old's bowling in the death overs.
Suggesting that Ellis could be CSK's death bowling specialist in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL), the legendary spinner wrote on X:
"The men in yellove will be happy with how he’s been shaping up. 4-0-30-3 for Hobart Hurricanes today. Most importantly, 2-0-15-2 at the death, bowling 17 and 20, nailing his yorkers and change of pace. R Ashwin reveals his CSK playing XI for IPL 2026
Meanwhile, R Ashwin recently revealed his preferred CSK playing XI for the forthcoming season. He picked youngster Ayush Mhatre as the opener alongside wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson.
Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was slotted at No. 3, followed by all-rounder Shivam Dube at No. 4. The No. 5 batter in Ashwin's lineup was swashbuckling South African batter Dewald Brevis.
He placed uncapped spin-bowling all-rounder Prashant Veer, who CSK signed for a whopping ₹14.2 crore in the IPL 2026 auction at No. 6. He backed MS Dhoni to play the finisher's role, keeping him at No. 7.
Ashwin opined that there could be a toss-up between West Indies spinner Akeal Hosein and New Zealand pacer Matt Henry. The other frontline bowlers in his lineup included Afghan mystery spinner Noor Ahmad, Nathan Ellis, and India's left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed.
