McLaren star Lando Norris took the pole position at the 2025 Las Vegas GP ahead of Max Verstappen, who will start in P2. In an ever-improving track at Sin City during the qualifying, which followed a downpour, the Briton came out on top as fans reacted to him securing the pole position.

Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri didn't have the ultimate pace during the practice sessions, as shown by McLaren in previous races. The track was damp for the FP3 session and improved to slick conditions at the end of the final practice.

Going into qualifying, a heavy downpour and the low grip characteristic of the circuit meant most drivers went out in full wet tires. Q1 and Q2 were dominated by wet-weather running, and the McLarens didn't seem to have the ultimate pace. However, by the time Q3 began, the track was good enough for the intermediate tires.

Lando Norris went to the top of the timing sheets with his penultimate lap, but soon others improved on a track which was improving every minute. The McLaren driver went purple in the two sectors of his final lap, and despite a mistake in the final sector, was able to clinch the pole position.

Fans took to the social media platform X and reacted to Norris' crucial pole position as they wrote,

“Pole for Lando The kid’s not the future anymore… he’s the present”

Another commented, “Norris’ has the biggest set of bollocks, what a lap” “If Lando wins this one, can't even say anyone else deserved the wdc more than him. -from a Max fan,” mentioned another

Some fans detailed how Lando Norris managed to take the pole by 3 tenths despite a mistake in the final sector, as they wrote,

“What a lap. Without that wheel spin in sector three he would have been on pole by a second!”

Lando Norris' crucial pole at Las Vegas under the championship pressure

Lando Norris came into the Las Vegas GP as the title favourite, 24 points ahead of his teammate with three races to go. However, the early pace at the practice suggested that the McLarens weren't the outright fastest cars. Yet in tricky conditions where many made mistakes and where seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton got eliminated in Q1, Norris was able to take the pole position.

The Briton will start ahead of his championship rivals as Max Verstappen qualified P2, and Oscar Piastri only managed P5. There was a yellow flag in the final minute of the qualifying, which meant many drivers didn't get the opportunity to set the lap time.

Regardless, while Norris was slammed earlier this season for choking when it mattered (qualifying and race starts), the Briton showcased at the Las Vegas GP why he is the favourite for the title.
