Based on Freida McFadden's 2022 novel of the same name, The Housemaid is a psychological thriller film scheduled to be released on December 19, 2025, by Lionsgate. Directed by Paul Feig, the film features Sydney Sweeney in the lead role of Millie Calloway.

The story revolves around Millie, a young woman with a troubled past, who is hired as a live-in housemaid for the seemingly perfect, wealthy Winchester couple. Though she quickly learns that the family's perfect façade hides sinister secrets, turning her new beginning into a power struggle based on lies.

The Housemaid also features Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, Michele Morrone, Elizabeth Perkins, and other actors in supporting roles.

The Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney will appear as the young maid Millie Calloway in the upcoming adaptation of The Housemaid novel. The American actress gained early recognition with her roles in Everything Sucks! and The Handmaid's Tale.

Sweeney achieved a breakthrough in her acting career with her roles as Cassie Howard in Euphoria and as Olivia Mossbacher in the first season of The White Lotus. She is also set to appear as the former professional boxer Christy Martin in the biopic Christy, releasing on November 7, 2025.

Actress and singer Amand Seyfried is featuring as Nina Winchester in the upcoming film. Nine hires Millie as the live-in housemaid in the Winchester mansion.

Seyfried rose to fame with her role of Karen Smith in the teen comedy Mean Girls (2004), which was followed by her first major lead role as Sophie in the musical hit Mamma Mia! (2008). She is also set to appear in the lead role of Ann Lee in the upcoming historical drama film, The Testament of Ann Lee, releasing on December 25, 2025.

Who is the author behind the source material of The Housemaid?

The film's source material, The Housemaid was written by the American thriller author Freida McFadden. She is a prolific, multi-#1 New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author who is also a practicing physician specializing in brain injury.

Her writing career began when she self-published her first novel, the medical humor book The Devil Wears Scrubs, in 2013 on Amazon KDP. She gruadually progressed in her career until she gained popularity with her 2022 novel, which has been adapted into a film.
