“Shouldn’t have to pay a dollar”: NFL fans react as Jalen Ramsey gets hit with $14,491 fine for punching Ja’Marr Chase

The NFL fined Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Jalen Ramsey after he punched Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase on Sunday. The veteran defender was ejected from the game after hitting Chase.

After the game, he accused the Bengals star of spitting on him, which prompted the league to launch an investigation that resulted in Chase being suspended for one game. On Saturday, NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the league fined Ramsey $14,491 for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Fans reacted to the decision, with many criticizing the league for fining Ramsey for reacting after somebody disrespected him.

"Fined for punching a dude who spit in your face is CRAZY If anything they should make Ja’Marr pay the fine," one fan said. "The league said 'nah you not supposed to react to someone spitting on you,'" another fan said. "shouldn’t have to pay a dollar," another fan said.

The criticism continued, as fans were convinced Jalen Ramsey reacted accordingly.

"Imagine being fined $15k for grabbing a dudes helmet after being spit on… Do better (NFL)," one fan said. "Fining someone for his reaction to getting spit on is absolutely absurd," another fan said. "Shouldn’t have been fined a single penny. A man spits on you and his reaction was the most controlled option possible," another fan said.

Jalen Ramsey and the Steelers had the last laugh. They won the game 34-12, and Ja'Marr Chase, who finished with three receptions for 30 yards, was suspended for the Week 12 matchup against the New England Patriots, resulting in a loss of over $ 500,000 due to his absence.

Mike Tomlin had blunt reaction to Jalen Ramsey punching Ja'Marr Chase

In the aftermath of the Jalen Ramsey-Ja'Marr Chase controversy, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin shared his thoughts on the matter. He was asked if he had a message for Ramsey and other players on how to react when they face similar situations. Tomlin said he would encourage his players to act how they need to act.

“I have no message if someone spits in your face,” Tomlin said. “Do what comes natural.”
