Rams linked to former top-5 pick in massive trade idea

The Los Angeles Rams enter the season with high hopes in 2026. After falling short last season, the Rams are poised to make a deep playoff run and finish the season on top.

The Rams have arguably the most loaded roster in the league, and they are projected to get even better. According to ESPN's Seth Walder, he predicted the Rams making a move for New York Giants edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux to bolster their pass rush.

Here's how Walder views the predicted trade going down:

Rams get:

  • Kayvon Thibodeaux
  • 2028 sixth-round pick

Giants get:

  • 2028 third-round pick

“This is a rich-get-richer scenario for the Rams, who already have Jared Verse and Byron Young at edge. Both Verse and Young were among the top-35 players in sacks last season (12 and 7.5, respectively),” Walder wrote. “Thibodeaux, who fits with the pair in the sense that he also is a strong run defender, can rotate in with that group. And if he lives up to the upside of his draft status, then Los Angeles would become even more dangerous.”

The Giants drafted Thibodeaux with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Although he was a top-five pick, it's safe to say he has not lived up to expectations so far in his first four seasons of his career.

Kayvon Thibodeaux could be strong fit for Rams pass rush

While Thibodeaux has shown solid attributes, the consistency and dominance many expected from him have not fully materialized. Still, he's not a bust; the 25-year-old has had a double-digit sack season and has to be a proven pass-rusher at times.

If the Rams were to make a move for Thibodeaux, he would not arrive in Los Angeles to be a "savior." Instead, he could operate from within and be of tremendous help.

One minor flaw the Rams possess when it comes to the pass rush is the depth, or lack thereof. With Thibodeaux possibly on the team, that would immediately solve that issue.

A trade for the former Oregon Duck is far from a guarantee for Los Angeles; however, the fit with the Rams is undeniable.
