Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs lost Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals amid serious officiating failures.
The referees ignored a challenge request from coach Mitch Johnson during a critical third-quarter sequence. Replays confirmed the ball bounced off Chet Holmgren's foot, not Wembanyama.
I’m so serious there needs to be an INVESTIGATION done on these refs.
They ignored Mitch Johnson asking for a challenge when the ball went off Chet’s foot, inbounded the ball, and hit him with a technical for complaining.

Johnson signaled to challenge but officials never acknowledged his gesture. OKC quickly inbounded the ball before San Antonio could protest the non-call further.
Johnson received a technical foul for his reaction to the ignored challenge request. At that point, San Antonio had cut Oklahoma City's lead to just ten points.
A successful challenge would have given the Spurs possession to narrow the gap further. Instead, the Thunder received free throws and seized full control of the game's momentum.
Wembanyama managed only four field goals on 15 shot attempts in Game 5. His 16 points came from a perfect 10-for-10 effort at the foul line.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 32 points and shot 16 of 17 from the free-throw line. Additional missed calls included an uncalled goaltend on Luke Kornet's shot attempt.
A Jared McCain elbow on Dylan Harper also went unpenalized before McCain drew a foul. Fans voiced outrage across social media after the game concluded.
Victor Wembanyama faces unchecked physical defense in the series
Oklahoma City's physical defense around the paint has largely gone unchecked this series. Wembanyama scored 41 in Game 1 and 33 in Game 4, both Spurs wins.
In Game 5, the Thunder again limited his access to the basket, despite inconsistent whistles. "They do a fantastic job, starting with SGA, of getting the officials to believe a foul has occurred," Mike Brown said.
The free-throw disparity has followed a clear pattern throughout this Western Conference Finals series. Oklahoma City held significant free-throw advantages in their two wins.
San Antonio controlled the foul line in their two victories this series. Fans now question whether officials systematically favor the defending champions.
Many even suggested boycotting the Finals to make Adam Silver address the problem. The missed challenge in Game 5 stands as the latest evidence of a deepening crisis.
NBA refereeing standards demand an urgent review before postseason integrity is further compromised.
