Raiders trade rumor reveals one offensive player Las Vegas isn't looking to trade

The Las Vegas Raiders have a slew of players they could deal at the NFL trade deadline.

One player who is a logical trade candidate is tight end Michael Mayer, who took a back seat at the position the second the Raiders drafted Brock Bowers.

While that would seem to make him expendable, Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer reports that the Raiders are not looking to move the former second-round pick.

Breer said so in a recent mailbag article when naming tight ends the Denver Broncos should put in a call for ahead of the trade deadline.

"I would call the Raiders on Michael Mayer, though I think Vegas would hang up on the idea of dealing him in-division (they aren’t looking to trade him, period)," Breer explained.

While Mayer did step up in Week 6 while Bowers was sidelined, he has become an afterthought in the offense when the star tight end is healthy. If you take away that five-catch, 50-yard showing from Week 6, Mayer has seven catches for 57 yards through his other four games played this season.

That said, Mayer has become instrumental in the Raiders' offense and on special teams with his blocking. Having a good blocker like Mayer at tight end frees up Bowers to do what he does in the passing game.

His absence in the latter department was surely felt in Weeks 6 and 7, when Las Vegas had a field goal and punt blocked, respectively, against the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts.

That said, holding on to a guy mostly relied upon as a blocker wouldn't be a sound decision for a team that is as far away from competing as the Raiders are.

If the Raiders get a good offer for Mayer, they should move him.
