Phillies get interesting Harrison Bader free agent rumor from MLB insider

1 hour ago 2

This offseason has been a frustrating one for the Philadelphia Phillies. While they brought back Kyle Schwarber and J.T. Realmuto, they were tantalizingly close to Bo Bichette, and also traded away Matt Strahm.

Their outside additions haven't been great, with Adolis Garcia and Brad Keller being the two noteworthy additions this offseason. They could use another player, specifically, a right-handed hitting outfielder.

That's why the report from Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, which reintroduces Harrison Bader as an option for the Phillies, is such an interesting rumor this offseason. While it might not be likely, it's still a possibility for the Phillies.

Phillies could re-sign Harrison Bader amid latest rumor

"Bader is the best outfielder left on the market, and a number of teams including the Mets, Diamondbacks, and Cardinals, need more help in that area," Feinsand writes. "A reunion with the Phillies can't be ruled out, though that seems like a long shot at this point."

If the Phillies aren't out of the bidding just yet for Bader, the right-handed hitting, defensive wizard would be a great pickup for the Phillies this offseason.

They have the means to fit him on the roster, as he could, at worst, platoon with Brandon Marsh in the outfield. But if he's a consistent starter, then the Phillies could platoon Marsh with Garcia in right field.

Justin Crawford will be an everyday starter for the Phillies in an ideal world, which would leave Marsh in a platoon and, currently, Garcia as the full-time right fielder.

Bringing Bader back would be great for the Phillies, but his return to Philadelphia isn't very likely. Some team will be willing to spend on Bader this offseason, and the Phillies aren't likely to get into a bidding war.

Feinsand isn't ruling the Phillies out just yet, which is good news on its own. But, Phillies fans shouldn't get their hopes up that Bader returns to Philadelphia this offseason.
