Fernando Mendoza did what few national champions have ever done in the hours after lifting a College Football Playoff trophy. He updated his LinkedIn profile.
The Indiana quarterback, fresh off a 27-21 win over Miami in the national championship game, added another line to an already surreal resume. After previously noting his Heisman Trophy win, Mendoza updated his page again to reflect being named the 2025 College Football National Championship MVP.
It was a fittingly unconventional move for a quarterback known as much for his process-driven approach. Mendoza has said he deleted most social media apps during the season, keeping only YouTube and LinkedIn. He has described the professional networking platform as a “positive place,” one where he prefers to share milestones rather than scroll.
On Monday night, Mendoza led the Indiana Hoosiers to the first national championship in program history, capping a perfect season. He completed 16 of 27 passes for 186 yards and repeatedly extended drives on critical fourth downs.
None bigger than his 12-yard touchdown run on fourth and 5 in the fourth quarter. It was a play that sealed Indiana’s victory over the Miami and became an instant highlight of the CFP era.
Two days later, Mendoza explained the moment in a LinkedIn post that blended sincerity with humor. He reflected on belief, risk-taking and gratitude, jokingly framing the championship as a lesson in “B2B sales (kidding…kinda)” before thanking teammates, coaches, professors and support staff.

Despite being widely viewed as the heavy favorite to be selected first overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, Mendoza has treated his LinkedIn profile with the same attention to detail he brings to the field. Throughout his college career at Cal and Indiana, he has listed leadership, communication and time management skills alongside his academic work toward a business degree.

After adding a national championship to his experience section, Mendoza may soon be preparing another update.
Come draft night, “Las Vegas Raiders quarterback” could be the next title on his profile — proof that even football’s brightest stars still believe in keeping the resume up-to-date.
