The New York Yankees and several other teams are reportedly interested in trading for San Diego Padres reliever Mason Miller before the deadline. There are some really good packages out there for Miller and the Padres' recent slide has reignited this conversation.
Despite that, Bleacher Report's Zachary Rymer believes Miller will be too costly for many, including the Yankees, at this point.
Several reports, including from New York Post's Jon Heyman and MLB reporter Francys Romero, suggest that the Yankees are willing to throw in both outfielders Spencer Jones and Jasson Dominguez, if that means getting Miller.
However, Rymer still doesn't think it will be enough for the Padres to be convinced.
Miller's club control through the 2029 season and what it cost the Padres to get him from the Athletics in the first place are probably the biggest reasons San Diego won't be interested in any such offers. Trading away top prospect Leo De Vries for Miller was a big investment, and so the Padres should be in no hurry to let go of their star reliever.

40% chance Mason Miller gets traded at deadline: Jeff Passan
According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, there is a 40% chance Mason Miller will get traded at the deadline. However, the insider also acknowledges that the trade won't be easy for any team to propose.
Passan said the Padres need a controllable starting pitcher and the Yankees could make that happen for them.
“And if a trade happens, it’s because the Padres understand they need controllable starting pitching," Passan said. "And whether it’s a team like Seattle or a team like the New York Yankees, they’ve got a lot of controllable starting pitching that they would gladly give up to get a reliever of Mason Miller’s caliber.”
When it comes to the Yankees, their rotation is filled with Max Fried returning on Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates and Carlos Rodon also close enough. This could open up avenues for the Yankees to trade Will Warren and/or Triple-A prospect Carlos Lagrange in a package for Miller, per NJ.com's Adam Zagoria.
Miller is enjoying an extraordinary year on the mound in 2026. After 40 appearances, the right-hander has posted a 0.86 ERA and has recorded 25 saves. He has struck out 78 hitters against just 14 walks. This makes the two-time All-Star a premier commodity at the deadline should the Padres be interested in moving him.
