Padres' asking price for Mason Miller revealed by MLB exec who talked to A.J. Preller

There is a lot of attention on what the San Diego Padres and Detroit Tigers will do at the MLB trade deadline, and it's all about two players.

Mason Miller of the Padres and Tarik Skubal of the Tigers are the best reliever and starter who could be moved this season. While the cost for Skubal is going to be very high, a new projected cost for Miller has come out, and it's just as high.

Will Sammon and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic shared that one MLB executive who has spoken to Padres GM A.J. Preller revealed the asking price for Miller. The cost of a deal could start at two top-100 prospects.

"One executive who has spoken with Preller surmised that if he shops Miller, his initial ask would be at least two top-100 prospects," Sammon and Rosenthal write.

There are always a lot of relievers available at the trade deadline, but this season, Miller, if made available, would easily be the best option on the market.

Preller knows this, and he has justification to be able to ask for a massive return. Aroldis Chapman is off the market with the Boston Red Sox's resurgence, and there isn't another closer of the same tier as Miller.

Two top-100 prospects are a tough price tag for teams to match, especially if the Padres are looking for more on top of that, which this MLB exec alludes to being the case.

Miller is 27 years old and under club control through the 2029 season. He'd easily be the hottest commodity at the MLB trade deadline in the bullpen if he's available.

Considering all of the rumors floating around regarding Miller, it seems there's a real chance he's on the move this summer. If he is, Preller is going to ask for a massive return.

That package seemingly will start with two top-100 prospects, and could feature some Major League talent, or even more top prospects.

Preller likely won't be able to land a comparable package to what he spent a year ago with Leo De Vries for Miller, but any serious offer for Miller this summer will have to be a massive one featuring multiple top prospects.
