On Sunday, the Baltimore Orioles announced that outfielder Will Robertson was designated for assignment.
Robertson did not last more than a month with the Orioles, as the American League East club scooped him off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates earlier in December.
The 28-year-old spent the 2025 season with the Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago White Sox, making 27 appearances and hitting .129/.173/.143 with nine RBIs and 27 strikeouts in 75 trips to the plate.
After three games with the Blue Jays in June, Toronto traded Robertson to the White Sox in exchange for cash considerations.
The majority of his playing time came at Triple-A Buffalo (Blue Jays) and Charlotte (White Sox), where he hit 20 home runs with 21 doubles in 89 contests.
Why did the Orioles make this abrupt decision?
The Orioles designated Robertson for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for starting pitcher Zach Eflin. Eflin returned to Baltimore on a one-year deal after making 14 starts with the club in 2025.
There's a chance Robertson can remain with the organization, but he must first clear waivers and then accept an assignment to Triple-A Norfolk.
He was a fourth-round draft pick by the Blue Jays in 2019. Robertson hit 30 career home runs in three seasons at Creighton University.
