Vince McMahon retired from WWE in July 2022 amid allegations of sexual misconduct against him. However, he came back to the company in January 2023 and remained in charge till January 2024, when he finally resigned from his position after the Janel Grant lawsuit was filed against him.
In March 2023, current WWE President Nick Khan appeared on CNBC, where he was asked by anchor Morgan Brennan about any increasing involvement of Vince McMahon in the creative process. At the time, Khan definitively answered "No."
However, evidence to the contrary has seemingly been presented by Brandon Thurston on POST Wrestling. Text messages between McMahon, Khan, and creative executive Bruce Prichard from February of that year show McMahon speaking about creative plans involving Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39. Khan seemed to have directed the conversation to the Signal messaging app, which has an auto-delete feature. As a result, there remains ambiguity about the full extent of McMahon's involvement in the creative plans at the time.
That year, Reigns beat Rhodes in the main event of the premium live event to retain the Undisputed Universal Championship. However, it does contradict the statement made by Nick Khan a month later, claiming McMahon did not have a greater role in the creative decisions.
Real reason why Vince McMahon didn't book dream match seemingly revealed
One of the biggest moments of the 2010s was when Sting debuted in WWE. The WCW icon went on to have a match at WrestleMania 31 against Triple H, and even challenged Seth Rollins for the WWE Title later that year. But, despite many rumors, he was never booked in a dream match with The Undertaker.
The reason behind Vince McMahon not booking the match has seemingly been revealed by the Wrestling Observer Radio's Dave Meltzer.
“That’s a Vince call. And in hindsight, I guess the answer is no. He never saw the big thing in it that a lot of people did. He could have done it. Many people would have wanted him to do it. I don’t think he saw Sting at the level of Undertaker. And he didn’t do it," said Meltzer.Since leaving in January 2024, McMahon has not been seen at any WWE events or allegedly been involved in the creative process, now overseen by his son-in-law, Paul Levesque.
