NFL insider reveals why cutting Tyreek Hill could be a massive $36,000,000 win for Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins might consider parting ways with Tyreek Hill following a disappointing season. The wide receiver's campaign ended after suffering a dislocated knee and multiple torn ligaments, including his ACL, against the Jets in Week 4.

With Hill set to count $52 million against the 2026 cap, the Dolphins could look to maximize savings. NFL insider Adam Schefter posted a strategy for Miami to accumulate more space as it gears up for a rebuilding phase.

"If the Dolphins release Tyreek Hill before June 1, they would save $23.65 million against their cap; if they designated him a post June 1 release, they would save $36M in 2026. Either way, moving on from Hill could help pave the way for Miami to move on from Tua Tagovailoa." Schefter tweeted on Sunday.

Hill’s is on a restructured three-year, $90 million contract signed in August 2024, with $65 million in total guarantees through the 2025 season. This structure allows the Dolphins to release him post-June 1 to save $36 million. They will avoid a payout of his unguaranteed $45 million salary and bonuses.

Hill recorded 21 receptions for 265 yards and one touchdown in four games before he was sidelined. His performance dropped in the 2024 season, posting just 81 receptions and failed to reach 1,000 receiving yards. The wideout was on track for a similar or worse season before he got injured.

Tyreek Hill's agent on WR's future in Miami

Tyreek Hill's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, shared the wide receiver's stance on his future with the Dolphins in November.

“That depends on the Dolphins," Rosenhaus said, via sportscaster Josh Moser. "I haven't had any discussions with the Dolphins yet about Tyreek or his future with the team. We'll have those discussions after the season.”

Rosenhaus said Hill remains fully focused on his recovery despite the uncertainty, and that rehabilitation is going well. He also highlighted Hill's dedication and work ethic.

Rosenhaus added that Hill plans to take his time before deciding whether to continue his playing career. There is no urgency, as Hill is prioritizing his rehab and spending time with family.

The Dolphins (6-8) are entering the final stretch of the season and are already eliminated from the playoff race.
