Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has told Kobbie Mainoo that being on the bench for the Red Devils at the age of 20 is not a bad thing. He also gave examples for Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Juan Sebastian Veron, stating that they were also on the bench during their teenage years at United.

Conversations about the 20-year-old's future at Old Trafford became lively again after his brother, Jordan Mainoo-Hames, was seen wearing a 'Free Kobbie Mainoo' t-shirt during United's 4-4 draw against Bournemouth on December 15.

Addressing the stunt, Amorim stated that he has no issues with Mainoo because his brother did so. Amorim claimed that he just wants the English midfielder to prove his worth. He said via utdreport (via Simon Stone):

"I had the situation in Sporting. My brother wrote something on the internet, and I had to answer for that. My explanation was that he has his life, he has his opinion, and it's nothing to be with me. I will do the same with Kobbie." "Kobbie needs to fight for his job. It is not a bad thing to be on bench of Manchester United when you are 20 years old. I remember (Cristiano) Ronaldo was on the bench, Rooney was on the bench sometimes. Veron was not playing. So let's continue in trying to avoid the nonsense and the noise. I just want to help to win. To help Kobbie to be a better player." He added.

The Englishman has played only 212 minutes for United this season in the Premier League, making 11 appearances. He has yet to start a game for the Red Devils this season.

Ruben Amorim hints at Manchester United possibly making signings in January

Ruben Amorim has revealed that Manchester United could potentially make a signing in January. Despite spending £230 million on summer signings earlier this year, the Red Devils are keen on making further reinforcements in the winter transfer window. The United head coach said (via BBC):

"I don't know what is going to happen, but it's possible we can do something - we will see. The only thing we know is that we would only try to bring players we think are going to be the future."

The Red Devils are reportedly interested in Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo, Al-Hilal's Ruben Neves and Atletico Madrid's Conor Gallagher, who already have experience playing in the Premier League.

Their experience will help United improve its position in the league and regain consistency. Manchester United are currently seventh in the Premier League with 26 points after 16 games.
