The New Orleans Saints have added a ton of talent to their offense this offseason to surround second-year quarterback Tyler Shough with the best environment possible.
After signing Travis Etienne Jr. in free agency, the future of Alvin Kamara in New Orleans became a lot murkier. The question with Kamara is a big one, and there's been no clear answer or trend just yet.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that rumors surrounding the future of Kamara in New Orleans, regardless of whether they decide to keep him or not, are likely to heat up very soon due to an NFL deadline opening the door for action this offseason.
Saints rumors on Alvin Kamara expected to heat up soon
"The team can also save about $14 million after June 1," Fowler said. "I'm told there hasn't been a lot of traction yet on the Saints' direction with Kamara, but there is some interest in potentially coming back; maybe they can do a revised deal. Either way, that should heat up close to that deadline."
— Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) May 31, 2026With the Saints still undecided on what to do with Kamara, this June 1 deadline presents a good opportunity to finally make a decision.
Kamara's future doesn't have to be decided by June 1, but rather the Saints can actually seriously explore possible resolutions to this situation by 4:00 p.m. Eastern on Monday, June 1.

If they want to bring Kamara back, they could do so. But it would likely coincide with a contract restructuring to help the Saints save a bit of money on his expensive deal.
As Fowler notes, the Saints can save $14 million after June 1 by cutting ties with Kamara, whether it's a trade or a release.
While he's a five-time Pro Bowler and a Saints icon, it might finally be time to move on from Kamara. Thanks to the June 1 deadline opening the door to a decision, Kamara's future might finally be determined very soon.
The Saints could drag this out as they explore trades with Kamara, or they could make a quick decision. But, regardless of whether Kamara sticks in New Orleans or they cut ties with the fan favorite RB, a decision can finally happen after June 1.
