The San Antonio Spurs (22-7) appear to be a team ready to make a deep run in the playoffs. They are in second place in the Western Conference standings and a few changes to the roster can have a big impact on their performance in the playoffs.

The NBA trade deadline nears as the year comes to an end. The league halts all trade transactions between teams at 3 p.m. ET on Feb. 5. The teams have a little more than a month on their hands to make the final adjustments to their lineups.

On Thursday, Spotrac's trade machine ran a few mock trade simulations. One of the mock trades involved San Antonio receiving Tray Murphy III in exchange for two forwards who have not been a part of Mitch Johnson's rotations lately.

In this trade, the Pelicans receive Kelly Olynyk and Jeremy Sochan, a 2026 Chicago first-round pick, a 2027 Atlanta first-round pick, and a 2031 Sacramento first-round pick. In exchange, the Spurs receive a career 38.1% 3-point shooter who would fit well with their current lineup.

The Black and White have an offensive front featuring Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle and De'Aron Fox. All the Spurs players are capable of drawing in defenders in their drives and pull-up actions.

Pairing Murphy alongside them would get the shooter a good amount of open looks to capitalize on. He can be the lethal range option that San Antonio need to beat other top teams in the league consistently.

New Orleans, on the other hand, would get two forwards whom they can either use in their rebuilding phase or trade further to get more draft assets. The first round picks are the most valuable assets in this trade, as they would allow the Pelicans to trade for better players or draft talented rookies for a rebuild. The Pelicans (8-23) are in 14th place in the West.

The Spurs could trade for Bucks guard ahead of the NBA trade deadline

The rumors suggest that the Spurs could trade for Bucks guard Gary Trent Jr. before the NBA trade deadline. According to "Air Almo", the Bucks have shown interest in shipping Gary Trent Jr. to the highest bidder and the Spurs could look to trade for him.

San Antonio have plenty of second-round picks, which they can use to acquire Trent Jr. To make the trade more efficient, they can involve the Bucks in the trade for Trey Murphy III.

It would make the trade a three-team trade where the Bucks would receive second-round picks from San Antonio and one player from the Pelicans, while the Pelicans would receive an additional pick. Gary Trent Jr. is shooting 37.1% from the 3-point arc.
