Uganda and Tanzania lock horns at the Al Barid Stadium on Saturday in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, with both sides looking to recover from opening day losses.

Ranked 85th in the world, the Cranes are back in the competition for the first time since 2019 and were handed a baptism of fire upon their return by Tunisia, who beat them 3-1.

Ellyes Skhiri fired the north African side in front after 10 minutes into the kick-off, before Mohamed Achouri netted a brace to put the Eagles of Carthage 3-0 up. Denis Omedi pulled one back for Uganda in stoppage-time, but it was too little too late.

Runners-up of the 1978 edition, the Ugands have progressed into the knockout stages only thrice from their last seven appearances in the AFCON tournament and must avoid another defeat here to suffer the same fate again.

Tanzania's campaign started off to a whimper too, with Nigeria beating them 2-1 in Group C. Former Arsenal man Semi Ajayi broke the deadlock for the Super Eagles in the 36th minute, but Kokola M'Mombwa restored parity for the Taifa Stars five minutes into the second half.

But the parity lasted only two minutes as Atalanta star Ademola Lookman struck for Nigeria to restore their lead as Tanzania failed to claw their way back into it this time around.
