The Boston Red Sox’ first goal of the offseason is to re-sign their superstar leader, Alex Bregman. The Sox for the most part know who their competitors are; however, there is one under-the-radar team they should be on the lookout for as well.
According to NY Post’s Jon Heyman, there is a dark horse team for Bregman in the AL: the Kansas City Royals.
"Look for the Royals to pursue a top hitter. They’ve been linked to Bregman. Tucker or Bellinger would fit, too, but Tucker is likely too pricey for them. Bregman could also work,” Heyman wrote.
The Royals do make sense, as they definitely could afford Bregman, by offering him a $200 million contract. Plus, they don’t have an All-Star second or third baseman, where Bregman plays a majority of the time.
This past season, Bregman slashed .273/.360/.462/.821 with 28 doubles, 18 home runs, and 62 RBI in 114 games played. He would fit in very well with the Royals, which is exactly why the Sox should be concerned.

The one thing the Sox have going for them though is the fact Bregman loves Boston. His family loves it there, so he might not be inclined on moving. As long as the Sox put up near the same amount of money as their competitors, Bregman could sacrifice some AAV for long-term security.
Hopefully the Sox get on re-signing Bregman ASAP, as if they can do that, then they can move on to addressing their other problems.
