The New York Giants announced on Monday that Mike Kafka will serve as the team's interim head coach after they fired Brian Daboll. Kafka was the assistant head coach/offensive coordinator for the Giants when Daboll was the head coach.

On Wednesday, Kafka shared a message for Daboll in his first press conference since taking over as interim coach for the Giants.

"This is a league of incredibly difficult situations, decisions," Kafka said. "I just have the utmost respect for Dabes and what he (Daboll) has done for me not only as a friend but as a coach, giving me an opportunity here to be an offensive coordinator.

"My thoughts are with him and his family. I just appreciate the things that he's done for me and I've learned a lot from him."

The Giants hired Daboll as their coach in January 2022. He was named AP's NFL Coach of the Year in his first season, when he led New York to the divisional round of the playoffs.

However, the Giants never made the playoffs again under Daboll. In fact, they haven't even posted a winning season ever since.

The Giants had a 6-11 record in 2023 and a 3-14 record in 2024. After falling to a 2-8 record this season, New York fired Daboll.

Across his time with the Giants, Daboll posted a 21-41-1 overall record.

Mike Kafka's first game as the Giants' interim head coach will see his team face the Green Bay Packers (5-3-1) in Week 11 on Sunday. The game will kick off at 1 p.m. ET from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The Packers have had their own struggles in the past few weeks and are currently on a two-game losing streak.

The Giants, on the other hand, have lost four games in a row. It will be interesting to see if Kafka can lead the Giants to a win in his new role.
