Mets trade proposal moves $50 million two-time All-Star to Yankees

Would the New York Yankees and New York Mets ever trade with each other? Well, anything is certainly possible, as both the Yankees and Mets have needs that could be addressed through a trade with each other.

If the Yankees and Mets were to get together on a deal, the Yankees clearly need an infielder, and the Mets so happened to have one in the form of Jeff McNeil, who could be dealt.

McNeil has been in trade rumors over the past few months. The left-handed hitting infielder has dealt with injuries throughout the early stages of the season, playing in his first game just three days ago.

Whether the Mets want to move on from him remains to be seen, and of course, a trade with the Yankees would cause some confusion, but Dylan Sanders of Sports Illustrated thinks it’s possible, proposing a deal for the Mets to move McNeil to the Yankees.

"Similar to Donovan, bringing in McNeil would likely mean having Chisholm slide over to third base. McNeil just recently made his season debut, but still has some trade value as a consistently solid player on the middle of the infield. He has a .257/.332/.380 slash line over the last three years and is a more-than-solid defensive presence," Sanders wrote.

The Yankees have some flexibility heading into the trade deadline.

If one thing is on their side, it's that they can move Jazz Chisholm Jr. to either third or second base. Chisholm has played an excellent second base throughout the early stages of the campaign, but he also showed that he's able to hold it down at third base last year.

McNeil has been an above-average hitter throughout his career, but his lack of power makes the fit with the Yankees questionable.

He's only hit more than 10 home runs once since the 2020 season.
