Shedeur Sanders had ‘shocking’ reason for NFL Draft slide to Browns in 5th round

Shedeur Sanders didn't just slide down draft boards. It was a free fall.

And since his drop started, everyone has been trying to figure out why.

The Athletic's ace college football reporter Bruce Feldman dug in on the matter in a new story out Monday.

And one of Feldman's anonymous source had a "shocking" explanation.

“The intel I got was shocking: ‘This guy has no awareness about how he’s coming across,’ or the type of leverage he has or doesn’t have,” an anonymous NFL coach told Feldman.

There was more, from an anonymous NFL wide receivers coach.

“He’s got a skill set, but no dominant trait," that coach told Feldman. "He’s a backup at this point, and those guys have to be wired for humble support of the starter."

The most likely explanation for Sanders' slide comes from these kinds of takes.

The mock draft and draft analyst community had Sanders in the first round pretty much from the outset.

What if most NFL teams didn't?

It seems odd that there'd be such a disconnect, especially when some of the top draft analysts are getting input from teams during the process.

But other than a 32-team blackballing for four rounds that magically ended in the fifth, it's hard to come across a different reasoning.

Teams just clearly didn't like Sanders as much as everyone expected them to.

And if those comments are indicative of how his career will go, they're certainly not a good sign.
