One of the championship favorites is facing elimination, and a rising star is the reason.
On Sunday, the Minnesota Timberwolves held on in the final minutes to take a 3-1 lead over the Los Angeles Lakers in their first-round matchup. Despite trailing for a large portion of the game, the Timberwolves made enough plays down the stretch to secure a thrilling win.
Of course, Anthony Edwards was at the forefront of Minnesota’s success. Despite being on the same floor as future Hall of Famers LeBron James and Luka Doncic, Edwards consistently looked like the best player on the floor.
In Game 4, Edwards finished the afternoon with 43 points, nine rebounds and six assists. @YoungNBA pointed out that performance put Edwards on a special list filled with some of the best players of all time.
Players in NBA playoff history to do what Anthony Edwards just did, with at least 43 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists on 70% TS:
LeBron James (2x)
Kevin Durant (2x)
Michael Jordan
Patrick Ewing
Charles Barkley
Donovan Mitchell
Jamal Murray
Oscar Robertson
Neil Johnston
Despite being involved in a scary loose ball collision in the first half, @Dom_2k pointed out that "Someone who turned it on in the second half would suspect nothing."
As @NBAmemes wrote, "Anthony Edwards is Kryptonite for NBA Legends." Last year, he led the Timberwolves to a Western Conference Finals appearance and slayed his fair share of stars along the way.

In the first round, he took out Kevin Durant and Devin Booker’s Phoenix Suns in a sweep. Then, he came up clutch in a seven-game series against Nikola Jokic’s Denver Nuggets.
However, he was eventually taken down in the conference finals by Doncic’s Dallas Mavericks. With Doncic on the other side again this postseason, Edwards is out for revenge and has been critical in the past two games, leading his team to two wins in the clutch, where the Timberwolves have typically struggled this season.
While the Timberwolves still need one more win to eliminate the Lakers, there is no doubt they have plenty of confidence. With Edwards running the show, Minnesota knows they have a star who can duel with any player in the league.
