The New York Mets initially began the offseason with some concerning news. Pete Alonso was gone, Edwin Diaz joined the Los Angeles Dodgers, and a few other key veterans like Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil were traded away.
Kyle Tucker choosing the Dodgers over the Mets was a near-breaking point, but David Stearns turned the ship around, landed Bo Bichette, Luis Robert Jr., and also brought in Freddy Peralta.
It's been a great offseason for the Mets, and it's only getting even better. According to Jon Heyman of The New York Post, the Mets are bringing in veteran reliever and future Hall of Famer Craig Kimbrel on a one-year deal.
Mets continue impressive offseason with future HOF signing
"Craig Kimbrel agrees to Mets deal," Heyman reported. "Minors deal with MLB camp invite."
The Mets' adding Kimbrel is a very solid move to round out the roster. According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, it's a $2.5 million deal if he makes the MLB team coming out of Spring Training.
Kimbrel is a 37-year-old reliever who's been in the Major Leagues for 16 seasons. If he makes the Mets Opening Day roster, it will be his 17th year in the league and his 10th team in his career.
Across the 16 seasons and 851 games he's appeared in, Kimbrel has an impressive 2.58 ERA with 22.7 bWAR, 440 saves, and 1,282 strikeouts.

This past season, Kimbrel spent time with the Houston Astros and the Atlanta Braves in the Majors. He only appeared in one game for the Braves, pitching one scoreless inning, before he was granted free agency in the middle of the year for a new team.
In Houston, he appeared in 13 games and posted a very solid 2.45 ERA across 11 innings with 16 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.364.
It's a low-risk, high-reward signing for the Mets. If it doesn't work out, they don't have to bring him onto the roster. But a good Spring Training could give the Mets a valuable reliever to begin the year with over 800 games pitched in a Hall of Fame career.
