The Vancouver Canucks are in a trading mood.
They're looking toward the future, and as soon as they sent away Quinn Hughes, it was clear this was a team heading toward a rebuild.
Now, though, one of their stars seems like he doesn't want to go anywhere.
That's center Elias Pettersson, and the most interesting part is that he's in total control here.
Pettersson has a full no-movement clause in his contract, so he has to approve of any potential trade he's involved in.
The former 102-point scorer is currently giving off the vibe that he wouldn't acquiesce to a deal.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman shared, "I know there's a lot of talk about Elias Pettersson right now. I just haven't been given any indication that he is willing to waive at this point in time."
This season, Pettersson isn't quite up to his usual level. He has 13 goals and 17 assists through 43 games.
The good news for the Canucks is that his contract runs through the 2031-32 season. If they rebuild successfully, he can still be a part of things on the back end of it.
He's only 27 years old, so there should be a lot of good hockey left in those skates.
A contender could certainly want Pettersson if he became truly available, but his current stance seems like he'll be sticking in Vancouver and have to be part of the solution himself rather than by what assets he can bring back in a deal.
