The Vancouver Canucks are transitioning toward a rebuild.
From the moment they traded away Quinn Hughes, that became pretty clear.
But one of their other defenseman doesn't want to get sent away.
The lanky Tyler Myers told the Vancouver Province that there's "no question" he wants to stay with the Canucks through the March 6 trade deadline.
The 35-year old Myers has a full no-move clause in his contract, so he can refuse any deal. That makes it seem pretty likely he will indeed be staying put.
Vancouver has Myers under contract at one more year for $3 million after this season.
The 6-foot-8 Myers has played in 51 games this season.
He has one goal and seven assists.
In plus/minus, Myers is a negative-22.
He has blocked 86 shots and dished out 62 hits.
This is his 17th NHL season. Myers spent six years with the Sabres, then five with the Jets, and this is now the seventh in Vancouver.
It makes sense that at this point he'd rather stay put than move again.
His no-move clause drops to just a 12-team list when he enters the final year of his contract, so he could still eventually be a trade candidate, just seemingly not right now.
