A top star has shared his thoughts after leaving WWE. The star has talked about his complicated relationship with the promotion and has shed light on how he was treated.
In September, WWE released former United States champion Andrade from his contract. Though he made an appearance for AEW, it was later revealed that his no-compete clause was still active.
Now, speaking on Enmascarados – El Podcast, he opened up about whether he experienced racism in the Stamford-based promotion. He said he didn't experience any racism but wasn't sure whether it was the case for everyone. He said his upbringing taught him to adapt and not play victim.
"As a public figure, there will always be positive and negative things. Maybe there is racism, maybe not. But I can’t say WWE was racist toward me, because I never felt that way personally,” he said. However, Andrade mentioned that he believed that the promotion didn't take Mexican wrestlers seriously, referring to his tag team with Rey Fenix. Despite putting on good matches, he felt the creative team, led by Triple H, would never give them the push they deserved.
"Even when we wrestled well, even when Fénix and I delivered great matches, we were still seen as just ‘the Mexican team.’ I didn’t think they’d ever push us the way we deserved. We had great chemistry. The crowd loved it. I told Fénix, ‘I think we’re going to be tag champs.’ And we were excited. But deep down, I thought, 'they’re not going to take us seriously. Not two Mexicans together,'” he added. [H/T eWrestlingNews]Andrade and Rey Fenix teamed up briefly and even competed for the Tag Team Championship in a Six-Pack Ladder match on night 2 of SummerSlam this year. However, it appears Triple H and the rest of the creative team didn't see long-term potential in them.
Andrade wins championship after WWE exit
Last week in an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda, Andrade revealed that he was gearing up for a title match in Puerto Rico.
He mentioned that he would compete in a WWC Universal Heavyweight Championship match after an agreement between his lawyers and WWE.
Andrade then ended up beating Xavant to win his first championship after leaving the TKO-owned promotion.
