The Michigan Wolverines fired Sherrone Moore after an internal investigation found that he had engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Moore has since been arrested for an alleged assault, and he's set to appear in court on some charges.
Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton has weighed in on Moore's firing. Speaking on the '4th and 1 Show',
"Have you not been to a collegiate high-power game before? I mean, the temptation is all around you, and you get a new batch every year. It's sad to say, but bruh, somebody got to keep it above."•

"You knew exactly what you were doing. Hey baby, you knew exactly who he was and you knew exactly who she was. It ain’t a black and white thing. This is a personal decision that he has to be held accountable to…" said Newton.Sherrone Moore was arraigned in court on December 12 after being charged with felonious third-degree home invasion and two misdemeanors. The misdemeanor offenses are breaking and entering and stalking in a domestic relationship. He's since been released on a $25,000 bond.
According to MSN, Sherrone Moore will face a preliminary legal examination on January 22, 2026. The judge will decide if the prosecution has enough evidence to proceed to the trial stage.
NFL figures have reacted to Sherrone Moore's firing
Former Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer is sympathizing with the family of Sherrone Moore. According to CBS Sports, Meyer said,
"Last night, I said a prayer for that family. I mean, you've got three little girls. You've got a guy who was on top of the world a week ago. They're up 6-0 on the Buckeyes at home. And then, also, you wake up, and they're in this situation. Rivalries aside, this is all human element."Former San Diego Chargers quarterback Ryan Leaf spoke about being able to relate to what Moore is currently going through. According to News Nation, Leaf said,
"I also have a very relatable mindset to when your life goes off the rails, the way you self-destruct in that moment. I remember when my life fell apart because of my addiction to painkillers. I was coaching in West Texas, and the first thought in my mind was, ‘I can’t be on this Earth anymore." "That is the initial reaction. You have so much shame around what is going on, you don’t have the bigger picture, and you can’t see yourself possibly getting past this. I can relate to it. I can understand it, it’s still shocking."The Michigan Wolverines have yet to hire a replacement for Moore. Biff Poggi will be in charge of their Citrus Bowl game against the Texas Longhorns. Marcus Freeman and Kalen DeBoer have been linked to the vacant Wolverines gig. A decision is expected to be made before the New Year.
