Matthew Lillard has great feet and he wants the world to know.
In Season 2 of Cross, now streaming on Prime Video, the esteemed actor’s digits are on full display in the last episode as his character, Lance Durand, walks through the dirt and earth on his farm. While other actors may have issues with taking off their socks and going bare, Lillard told DECIDER of the up close shot that it couldn’t have been more excited to show all.
Listen, my feet are gorgeous. I’ve already teed up the only fans,” he said with a laugh. “I feel like I’m going to make billions on these dogs.”
To that, Lillard’s co-star, Aldis Hodge, chimed in and joked, “He had pedicures written into his contract. It was a problem, some days, he wouldn’t come out of his trailer until his nails were clipped.”
All jokes aside, in the scene where Lillard’s “dogs” are roaming the land, his character is having a conversation with Nat (Lou Jurgens) about how he grew up on the farm with big dreams of solving world hunger. It’s an out-loud explanation of how, in his mind, the ends justify the means, of which the list includes human trafficking, child labor, and murder.
As silly as it sounds, Lillard told DECIDER that he got emotional while filming that moment, as he truly believed the message that his character was trying to convey.
“I will say that scene, that last sequence, I had this really crazy moment. As I was doing it, I got emotional, which was so weird. I literally got weepy because I do believe that he has this strength of, ‘I believe my own BS.’ That’s why I got the job,” Lillard explained.

Sadly, for fans of Lillard, the episode ends with his character in some serious hot water over the aforementioned crimes committed under his eye. It only takes Alex Cross (Hodge) nearly losing his own job in an effort to exploit corruption to get Lance in trouble the way that he deserves to be.
For Hodge, while Lillard’s character absolutely should be behind bars, the only place his co-star should be is coming back for a future season, as the Scream actor brought so much to the role and the show in the short span of time he was there.
“We auditioned a lot of brothers, a lot of fantastic actors, a lot of great performances, but something that we picked up on — I think the deciding factor when it came to Matt’s performance — is that he redefined the character for us,” Hodge said. “He redefined how we saw the character based on his energy, his intensity, and then also the vulnerable spots. We felt like his Lance Durand truly believed his own B.S., it was like, ‘Oh, this is real for you.'”
We’ll miss his eccentricities, but hey, if he’s not dead, there’s always a chance he comes back for more!
