LSU, Lane Kiffin in hot pursuit of Top QB Transfer

1 hour ago 2

Lane Kiffin isn’t wasting time addressing LSU’s most pressing offseason question. It's not when his next bonus from the College Football Playoff will come, but who will play quarterback in 2026?

The Tigers are expected to have turnover at the position going forward and need to use the portal. Garrett Nussmeier is no longer slated to be the starter and uncertainty beyond him. LSU’s long-term answer remains unclear. Ole Miss' Trinidad Chambliss need more eligibility and who knows if he would leave Oxford.

This has pushed Lane Kiffin and his staff aggressively find the next option. According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, former Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Sorsby has a visit scheduled with Texas Tech before an expected meeting with LSU.

Sorsby is widely viewed as the top quarterback available in the portal. He threw for 2,800 yards, rushed for 580 more and accounted for 36 total touchdowns during the 2025 season, production that has made him a coveted target nationally. Sorsby is also currently the No. 1 quarterback in the portal this cycle.

If LSU were to land Sorsby, the pairing with Kiffin’s offense could quickly elevate him into the Heisman Trophy discussion. But competition for his commitment is expected to be fierce forcing LSU to keep contingency plans in place.

One thing is certain right now that LSU will not settle for second-best. Kiffin is intent on finding his next quarterback through the portal, and January could define the Tigers’ future heading into next fall.
