Marvel’s Wonder Man television series is set to be released soon on the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) expanding TV programming schedule, which combines superhero action with a glimpse behind the scenes at Hollywood. The series focuses on Simon Williams, an affable and unsuccessful actor chasing both superpowers and celebrity status.

In an interview with Game Radar published on November 20, 2025, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who plays Simon Williams, stated that the show would take a different approach compared to other Marvel projects.

"We're doing something that, tonally, feels much different than really any other Marvel show, or any other films. We're doing something that's fresh, and a bit tongue-in-cheek, a bit self-aware," Mateen explained.

Wonder Man has existed in the Marvel Comics universe since 1964, but will finally be portrayed on television in a live-action format. Produced by Marvel Studios as part of "Marvel Spotlight" and created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, Wonder Man will stream exclusively on Disney+ on January 27, 2026.

When does Wonder Man come out?

The premiere of Disney+’s Wonder Man is scheduled for January 27, 2026. This series is the first live-action series released by Marvel Studios in 2026, comprising eight episodes that adhere to Marvel’s most recent streaming format.

All episodes will be released simultaneously on Disney+, rather than the traditional model of releasing a single episode each week. The show's protagonist, Simon Williams, is a struggling actor who becomes accidentally endowed with superhuman abilities.

The events of Wonder Man primarily occur within the context of the Hollywood entertainment industry. However, the series also has a comedic and satirical edge that differentiates it from most Marvel properties, with relatively little action compared to other Marvel programming.

For viewers interested in watching the show, Disney+ offers the following plans:

  • Disney+ (With Ads): ~$11.99 per month. Ad-supported streaming of the full Disney+ content library
  • Disney+ (Ad-Free / Premium): ~$18.99 per month (or ~$189.99 per year). No ads, includes offline downloads and enhanced audio/4K options.

What to expect from Wonder Man

The storyline of Wonder Man follows Simon Williams, a struggling actor who navigates his career through the harsh reality of living in Hollywood, facing the pressures of fame, rejection, and ambition. While the series is set primarily in the entertainment industry, it employs self-awareness and an over-the-top approach to highlight the cultural issues associated with superhero stories.

The show employs a style that features a "show-within-a-show" format to illustrate the personal journeys of Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery, rather than just creating a spectacle that draws attention to the characters and their abilities. Simon and Trevor meet while trying out for jobs. They bond through the trials and tribulations of auditioning, battling egos, and the lure of recognition, creating an emotional centre for the series.

As time progresses, Simon Williams suddenly gains superhuman powers. This causes a blurring of the line between film acting and reality, with life imitating art. The show touches on themes such as superhero fatigue. However, it ultimately focuses on the dynamics of the relationships between two men and how they navigate ambition, friendship, and moral compromise throughout their respective journeys.

With the opportunity to further their careers, each of the two men will have to make difficult decisions regarding loyalty and what it would ultimately cost them to seek fame and fortune in an industry built on illusions.
