Lions running back David Montgomery says matchup against Bengals is 'personal'

4 hours ago 1

The Detroit Lions' schedule dropped on Wednesday night and one of the several tough matchups the team will have comes in Week 5 on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Detroit has not fared well in its history against Cincinnati, with the latter team winning 10 of the 13 contests between the two franchises.

In fact, you'd have to go all he way back to 1992 for the Lions' last victory over the Bengals, when Erik Kramer was throwing the rock and Barry Sanders was dominating opposing defenses.

Since then, Cincinnati has won seven straight, including its last game with Detroit in 2021 that ended in a 34-11 blowout victory for the Bengals.

In what was a funny video posted on X, Detroit's social media team asked players which game they are looking forward to most in 2025. For running back David Montgomery, he chose the Bengals.

"If you know, you know," Montgomery said. "This one personal.

Why is it personal?

Well, Montgomery was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he no doubt grew up watching the Bengals. So, the road matchup will be a homecoming for him.

Montgomery has never played in Cincinnati during his NFL career, but he did play against the Bengals in 2021 while with the Chicago Bears, who were the home team for that matchup that the Bears won, 20-17.

Montgomery posted 20 carries for 61 yards and three catches for 18 yards while not finding the end zone in that game. Safe to say, he'll be looking to post a better showing when he returns home in October.
