LeBron James makes statement on post-retirement plans after Luka trade, playoff letdown

LeBron James is an age-defying NBA superstar.

Most players would be a complete liability on the hardwood if they were still employed at age 40. However, while James’ best days are behind him, he should be commended for embracing a pivotal offensive role in Year 22.

James averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.8 rebounds per game, shooting 51.3% from the field and 37.6% from deep with the Los Angeles Lakers this season.

While there’s no indication that James will exit the NBA this summer, the 21-time All-Star made a recent statement about a potential post-retirement career in the foreseeable future following the blockbuster Luka Doncic trade and the Lakers' second-round playoff exit.

“There's no way (James will coach once he retires), there's no way, guys," James said during a recent episode of the Mind the Game podcast. “It ain't happening. Zero chance."

If there’s one active player capable of succeeding as an NBA head or assistant coach, it's James.

While discussing James’ game thoroughly, many analysts like to focus on the four-time NBA champion’s physical gifts and upper body strength for obvious reasons.

However, James’ seasoned leadership skills and ability to attack complex defensive schemes methodically would make him a respectable coach in the big leagues.

That said, if the passion is non-existent, there’s no reason for James to force the issue after enjoying an illustrious 20+ year playing career.

James will unquestionably embark on a new journey after the NBA, but it appears coaching isn’t in the cards for the former Cleveland Cavaliers star.
