Real Madrid are not just busy planning for winning silverware this summer. They’re also working hard off the field to secure their future squad.
While all eyes are on the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, the club has quietly moved into the final stages of talks to extend Brahim Diaz’s contract — and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is next on their list.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid and Diaz have been in contact for two weeks. Talks are said to be “advanced,” and the 25-year-old has already given the green light.
A five-year deal is now close, which would tie the Moroccan international down until 2030.
Diaz had a strong 2024/25 campaign, playing 52 matches across all competitions. He chipped in with six goals and seven assists, often stepping up when called upon — not bad for someone who’s had to fight for minutes.
Though Bayer Leverkusen showed interest, it looks like Diaz is staying put.

Courtois next in line as Madrid plan ahead
Once Diaz’s deal is done, Real Madrid will shift their focus to another crucial figure: Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian’s current contract runs until June 2026, but the club wants to extend it further.
Given Courtois’ performances when fit, that’s no surprise — he’s been as solid as the Bernabeu bricks.
The timing is no accident. After sealing deals for young stars like Franco Mastantuono, Madrid’s next phase is keeping the core intact.
Raul Asencio recently signed a contract through 2031, and these upcoming renewals are part of the club’s long-term vision under new head coach Xabi Alonso.
Madrid fans might be watching the Club World Cup, but the real winning move may be happening in the boardroom.
