Top performers from Virginia high school softball state championship games

This past weekend in Virginia, the Virginia High School League held six high school softball state championship games.

In Class 6, Glen Allen - playing on its home field - posted a 7-4 win against Western Branch. Midlothian edged Godwin, 2-0, to claim the Class 5 championship. Then in Class 4, Tuscarora took home the title with a 3-1 win against Jefferson Forest.

Broadway, meanwhile, claimed the Class 3 championship as the Gobblers edged Turner Ashby, 4-3. In Class 2, Central Woodstock defeated King William, 4-1, for its title. Eastside claimed the Class 1 title with a 3-0 win against Auburn.

Here are several of the top standouts who led their respective teams to VHSL softball titles:

Top performers from 2025 VHSL softball championship games

Ila Goding, Glen Allen: Goding, a sophomore, went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs in the Jaguars’ Class 6 title-game win.

Ally Von Herbulis, Glen Allen: A senior, Von Herbulis went 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored.

Alison Via, Glen Allen: Another senior for the Jaguars, Via was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.

Marlee Gaskell, Midlothian: A senior pitcher, Gaskell tossed a three-hit shutout in the Trojans’ Class 5 championship win. She walked one and struck out nine. Gaskell also drove in one of her team’s two runs.

Erika Fiege, Midlothian: Fiege, a junior, went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Lea Foldeneaur, Midlothian: A sophomore, Foldeneaur doubled and drove in a run.

Peyton Travis, Tuscarora: Travis pitched a five-hitter in the Huskies’ Class 4 title-game win. She allowed one earned run and didn’t walk anyone while striking out eight.

Chloe Wools, Tuscarora: Wools was 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, a triple, an RBI and two runs scored.

Brileigh Bass, Tuscarora: Bass had a hit and an RBI in the Huskies’ win.

Maddie Wolfe, Broadway: Down 3-2, Wolfe’s two-run single in the bottom of the fifth provided the winning edge for the Gobblers in their Class 3 title-game win. She ended up driving in three runs on the day.

Lilah Deavers, Broadway: Deavers was the winning pitcher for the Gobblers, giving up three earned runs on five hits while striking out seven. She also hit a double.

Kayleigh Harper, Broadway: Harper drew a walk and scored the Gobblers’ initial run in the first inning.

Veronica Gordon, Central Woodstock: Gordon had an RBI double in the first inning to put the Falcons ahead for good in the Class 2 title game. She also added a sacrifice fly in the fifth for the game’s final run.

Serenity Burnshire, Central Woodstock: Burnshire hit an RBI triple as part of a two-run second for the Falcons.

Kristen Hockman, Central Woodstock: Hockman’s sacrifice fly in the second gave the Falcons a 3-0 advantage.

Braelyn Hall, Eastside: A senior pitcher, Hall threw a three-hit shutout and didn’t allow a walk while striking out 14. She also had a base hit on offense.

Mallory Durham, Eastside: A freshman, Durham was 2-for-3 with a double.

Lexi Bond, Eastside: Though she didn’t record a hit, Bond drove in two of the Spartans’ three runs.
