Lakers' JJ Redick gives Bronny James major stamp of approval after clutch minutes vs. Heat

The Los Angeles Lakers are off to a strong start this season, even after battling through injuries that have sidelined key players. LeBron James has missed time, and Luka Doncic has already sat out three games. James is in the final year of his contract with the Lakers, but his focus remains on competing for another championship.

“LeBron wants to compete for a championship,” Rich Paul told ESPN. “He knows the Lakers are building for the future. He understands that, but he values a realistic chance of winning it all. We are very appreciative of the partnership that we've had for eight years with Jeanie [Buss] and Rob [Pelinka] and consider the Lakers as a critical part of his career.”

While LeBron and others have dealt with injuries, Bronny James has been getting valuable minutes. Initially, though, things didn’t go smoothly for the young guard.

“The Los Angeles Lakers can’t play him right now. It is on Bronny to earn Redick’s trust and overtake a role on this team. Gabe Vincent struggled and is injured. There are seemingly minutes available, but the young guard isn’t snatching them,” Lake Show Life’s Tyler Watts wrote.

However, on Sunday night, Bronny showed that he belongs. He played crucial minutes down the stretch and delivered one of the biggest assists of the night. After the game, head coach J.J. Redick made it clear he believes in the second-year guard.

“Luka was double-teamed, he was the next guy. He drove the closeout, got in the paint, read the paint swarm and ended up getting his teammate an open three,” Redick said. “So just a really good building block for him tonight to play in a very meaningful game in the fourth quarter and have a lot of good plays.”

It’s clear that Redick’s confidence in Bronny is growing. While Sunday night was just one game, it could be the start of something bigger as he continues to build momentum.

When the Lakers needed him most, Bronny flourished. The second-year guard impacted the game in ways beyond scoring — and that’s what stood out most.
