Lakers in competition with Knicks, Celtics for $27 million Mavericks wing

The Los Angeles Lakers aren’t giving up after striking out on De’Andre Hunter and Keon Ellis.

With multiple back-up trade options available, it isn’t surprising that the franchise has expressed interest in serviceable assets that fit their system. According to ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel, the Lakers are competing with the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics for an underrated Dallas Mavericks wing.

“Naji Marshall is another player being linked to Los Angeles, among other playoff contenders, but Dallas has held a high asking price of a first-round pick for the 28-year-old wing,” Siegel wrote Monday.” The Mavs don't appear eager to trade Marshall over the likes of (Daniel) Gafford, (Klay) Thompson, and others.”

“Other teams that have inquired about Marshall include the Knicks, Detroit Pistons, and Boston Celtics.”

Although Marshall’s 30.4% three-point shooting makes him a less enticing two-way trade target, his slashing ability and defensive activity were enough to help him land on the Lakers’ radar this season.

It also helps that Marshall was a teammate of Luka Doncic’s in Dallas during the 2024-25 season, which would allow him to be an immediate impact contributor alongside the six-time All-Star in Los Angeles without having to learn his offensive tendencies.

Marshall, who’s averaging 14.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game with the Mavericks this season, is a player to monitor on the trade market.
