Eugene Wilson III missed the bulk of the 2025 season. The Florida Gators' wide receiver underwent hip surgery after dealing with numerous issues from the previous season.

Wilson III has now indicated his intention to enter the transfer portal. Fans took to Instagram to give their two cents on his decision.

Some fans were less critical.

One said, "Sorry for how Billy treated you, bro." Another wrote, "Not overly surprised. Didn’t have the same impact this year as last year. Pretty sure missed games due to injury both years. Best of luck bruh, it’s been real." One chipped in, saying, "Go be great 3 all love."

The Gators turned to Vernell Brown III and J. Michael Sturdivant in Wilson's absence. They finished the 2025 season with a 4-8 record.

Wilson III will look to prove that he can return to his pre-injury form. The Gators must now prioritize getting a new deep ball threat for the 2026 campaign.

The Florida Gators are dealing with a mini exodus before Jon Sumrall's first game in charge. Eugene Wilson III is the latest in a slew of promising players to enter the transfer portal.

According to Sports Illustrated, Wilson III is the fifth Florida receiver to announce his intentions to transfer. He joins Tank Hawkins, Muizz Tounkara, Aidan Mizell, and Mike Peterson Jr. in the portal.

Furthermore, the Gators have also lost star quarterback DJ Lagway to the portal. Lagway announced his decision shortly after Jon Sumrall was hired. He's now one of the most sought-after QBs available in the portal.

Injuries plagued Eugene Wilson III's time in Florida. He's now set for a pivotal decision in his football career.
