John Cena's legendary WWE career is coming to an end as he plans on retiring from in-ring competition following his last match in December 2025. Meanwhile, TNA Wrestling's former president, Scott D'Amore, explained why The Franchise Player should lose the workhorse title.

A superstar often wins the Intercontinental Championship on their way to the top of the card. However, John Cena took a different direction and became a notable name on the brand, holding the United States Championship. After over a decade of ruling the promotion, The Franchise Player once won the red, white, and blue title, but this time, he elevated the title and the division.

Earlier this month, he finally became a Men's Grand Slam Champion when he captured the Intercontinental Championship in Boston. In Uncrowned's The D'Amore Drop, Scott D'Amore explained why Cena shouldn't lose the workhorse title until his final match in December, and The Leader of The Cenation deserves a send-off like Sting did in AEW and not like the one Goldberg got in July.

"I’ll add that I think he should retain the title in next week's Survivor Series rematch vs. Dirty Dom in San Diego. He shouldn’t lose the title at all before he retires in three weeks. I don't think retiring with the belt hurts the belt at all. In fact, I think it elevates it. There is something powerful about Cena, one of the greatest WWE stars of all time, holding that championship on the way out. This should be a Sting-level sendoff, not a Goldberg-level sendoff. Cena has given WWE 20 years of his body, his time, his name, and his life. He has earned his hero’s farewell," D'Amore wrote. [H/T - Uncrowned]

John Cena has three appearances left for the promotion.

John Cena's former WWE rival is injured

John Cena's Hall of Rivals is unmatched, as The Franchise Player almost feuded with every notable name in the Stamford-based promotion during his prime years as a performer. In 2009, he put Sheamus over in a major way when he lost the WWE Championship to The Celtic Warrior in a Tables match.

The multi-time United States, World, and Tag Team Champion was in 'The Last Time is Now' tournament and wanted to become The Never-Seen Seventeen's final ever opponent in the company. Unfortunately, Sheamus will be unable to do that in the coming weeks.

WWE officially confirmed Sheamus' status on X/Twitter and revealed he suffered a shoulder injury and will not compete in 'The Last Time is Now' tournament. It'll be interesting to see when he returns to the product.
