Jerry Jones reflected on his future on Tuesday. The Dallas Cowboys’ longtime owner and manager feels the clock ticking on his pursuit of another Super Bowl.

Since purchasing the franchise in 1989, his tenure includes three Super Bowl victories but a decades-long postseason drought. He recognized the narrowing of the window.

A day after Dallas lost 27-17 to Arizona, Jones, 83, admitted that his age fuels his sense of urgency.

"My immediate tomorrows are a big thing to me. I've made some bad decisions, obviously, being trite. I am supremely responsible for where we are right now. There is no question about that. I accept that. That doesn't deter me from wanting to get it done and get it done now this year."

Jerry Jones expresses regret over defensive instability

Jerry Jones said he made missteps in reshaping the Dallas Cowboys defensive staff. The team has cycled through three coordinators in as many years, and the owner stressed that frequent change has undermined continuity.

Mike Nolan’s brief tenure in 2020 gave way to Dan Quinn, who revitalized the unit until leaving for Washington in 2024. Mike Zimmer followed, only to be replaced by Matt Eberflus in the offseason after Brian Schottenheimer took over as coach. Jones admitted on Tuesday that he “errored” by allowing that turnover.

"I've errored over the last three years with the changing of defensive coordinators or defensive philosophies or the adjustments there," Jones said, via 105.3 The Fan. "When I look back, if I see one thing that I had to do over again, I would've tried to not change out our coordinator every year over the last three years. Continuity, I know better."

The lack of stability was evident on Monday. Arizona backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett threw for 261 yards and two touchdowns, and the Cardinals converted nearly every key third down. The Cowboys entered Week 9 ranked last in the NFC in total defense, giving up almost 400 yards per game.
