Jeremiah Smith gets phenomenal Heisman Trophy prediction, dubbed 'unstoppable force' by CBS Sports

Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is just getting started.

After hauling in 15 touchdowns this past season and emphatically sealing the Buckeyes' national championship win against Notre Dame in January, Smith appears ready for even more damage this season.

CBS Sports' Will Backus is all aboard the Smith hype train, dubbing him "the best player in college football."

"Though the Heisman rarely goes to a wide receiver, Smith has the aura, media recognition and talent befitting college football's top award," Backus wrote. "It's not hard to see him collecting at least 1,500 yards receiving and 20 touchdowns for the Buckeyes in 2025, especially with fellow top option Emeka Egbuka off to the NFL."

Backus could be onto something after Smith's breakout season, not to mention the fact that LeBron James is a huge fan, too.

Fun fact aside, Backus went a step further to not only make a case for Smith to win the Heisman but took it arguably an unexpected step sooner: a sports bettor's dream.

"He's an unstoppable force and -- so long as he meets expectations -- he'll be in New York by year's end," Backus wrote. "Smith is the smartest bet to win the Maxwell and Walter Camp Awards, as well. A +1400 bet to win the award according to FanDuel Sportsbook

The Buckeyes are attempting to go back-to-back. In doing so, Smith will have to replicate this past season but on a much higher scale by potentially bringing home the Biletnikoff Award without it being close.

Smith was dubbed "a clear favorite" with no honorable mention needed. Barring any major setbacks, it will likely remain the same.

Smith will have a chance to shine through Week 1 against Texas in Columbus.

For Smith, though, greatness will only shine in his family if he continues to win. Therefore, the pressure is immense.

Nevertheless, in fewer than 100 days, the Buckeyes can prove whether they are the best team in the league again.

Come fall, the answer will lie ahead after the Longhorns' opener. As for Smith, he'll try to apply everything thus far to be even better.

We shall see.
