Juan Soto had a rough weekend in the Bronx.
Every time he went out to right field, he got two earfuls of hate from the fans in the bleachers. The new Mets superstar used to get adoration in that very same spot last season as a member of the Yankees.
It may have taken its toll on him, because by Soto's final at bat on Sunday night, he looked a tad disinterested.
The left-handed hitter pulled a hard grounder to the backhand side of second baseman D.J. LeMahieu. The Yankees infielder had to dive to his backhand side to make the play.
Soto didn't run hard out of the box and only picked up his speed partway down the line, not enough to be safe.
In a tied 2-2 game, it brought out some social media ire from Mets fans.

The most likely explanation, more so than injury or laziness, is that Soto may have instinctually thought the ball was through to the outfield off the bat.
It's hard to get those instincts to totally go away and just sprint immediately when the ball is hit, especially over the course of a 162-game MLB season.
It's still not a great look, but Soto can probably get a pass for this one in the long run.
