New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado and Phoenix Suns center Mark Williams got into a fist fight during their game on Sunday, Dec. 28. The two players' scuffle caught the attention of numerous players, including former Alvarado teammate and current Dallas Mavericks 3-and-D player Naji Marshall.

In his Instagram story, Marshall puts a target on Williams' back, throwing out his support for Alvarado with a stern warning for the Suns center.

"Say no more twin don't worry about it," he wrote in his IG story.

Marshall played for four years with the players from 2020 to 2024, before signing with the Mavericks in the 2024-2025 season. He played with Alvarado for three years in New Orleans, creating a bond between them.

The fight started with a shoving match between Williams and Alvarado before it escalated to a full-blown fist fight as players and officials rushed to separate the two.

They were ejected after the melee, which happened in the third quarter of the game. The Suns went on to take the victory, 123-114.

As of writing, the league has yet to sanction the two players.

Marshall's Mavericks will be taking on the Williams' Suns on Feb. 10. The fight between Williams and Alvarado put a subplot in the matchup.

Suns head coach explains possible reason why the players got heated

Suns head coach Jordan Ott speculated on the possible reasons why Mark Williams' temper got the better of him as he got tangled with Jose Alvarado.

Ott pointed out the Suns' schedule as they are playing on the second night of a back-to-back.

"I saw it start, and then all of a sudden everyone jumped in," Ott said after their win. "Obviously, it happens. It just feels like the lack of sleep, the second night of a back-to-back, something always tends to happen."

Ott also said that the fatigue from the paces of their game against the Pelicans may have affected Williams in the moment.

"Last night, there were a lot of free throws; tonight, there wasn't as much. They let us play tonight, which is something we enjoy. They got tangled up, and obviously, they both got thrown out," he added.

The Suns also played the Pelicans on Friday night, beating them 115-108. The Suns are currently on a three-game winning streak to improve to an 18-13 record, occupying the seventh seed in the West.

Meanwhile, the Pelicans stand at the 15th spot with an 8-25 record.
